From velvety basics to shimmering metallics, the choices are unlimited for style during the Christmas season.  The holidays are behind you, which doesn’t mean that you have to dress like the party is completely over!  During these winter months everything seems cold and gray outside but that doesn’t mean your clothes have to be too.

It’s important to come up with a personal way to wear some of our favorite winter trends.  Accessorizing in the winter can be a challenge, especially with the need to be both fashionable and functional for the cold.   Whether you are perking up neutrals with statement jewels or cozying up to spotted patterns and styles, hang on to what inspires you and makes you feel great.

  • Bundling up for the cold often hides accessories such as necklaces, bracelets, and rings.   Transform your bags, shoes, and hair accessories for the winter season to give you a flash of fashion without leaving you feeling frumpy.   On the positive side, these items are often larger, staple items that you can wear all of the time.  Whatever you enjoy and love to wear, a pair of boots, an oversized bag, or a wool coat that you feel great in, you can wear it daily.
  • With function ability crucial for these months, try to focus on the color, design, and style of your outerwear.   Make a statement with a flattering shape or bold print.  For example, wear a long, bright colored glove with a crop-sleeved jacket to make a statement.   They can provide you the warmth you need, while still giving you a classic and flattering look.
  • Add to your outfit with scarves, mittens, and hats to become your seasonal “jewelry”.  Go for one with the polka-dots, big stripe, or pom-pom that is fun, as long as you choose colors that are flattering for your skin tone it’s ok that it stands out.
  • The best winter accessory is a scarf, so never leave the house without one.   It not only keeps you warm but will draw attention to your face.  Be creative and express your originality with various colors, as well as textures and fabrics.   Just like changing your shoes, it’s an easy way to transition into the evening with a flashy scarf, such as sequined or ruffled.
  • Winter hats do not have to be the knit cap, beanie-shaped ones that completely flatten your hair, although, they may indeed be the warmest.   The selection ranges from bucket-shaped, faux-fur, classic beret, vintage fatigue, or floppy-rimmed hats.  There are many choices of colors and textures, including buttons, ribbons or such to embellish.  Be conscious of choosing styles that are flattering to the shape of your face.
  • There is a perfect coat out there for everyone, and they vary in size, shape, and style.  Find one that you love and that you feel good in because you will be wearing it on a daily basis.  Jackets with belts or that cinch will help accent your waist, and longer jackets which hit at your thigh should be worn if you are taller or have a larger waist.   A snug wool coat can be an asset to your wardrobe.  Find one that makes you feel great.

In the know, with the flow,
